About Joel Barjenbruch

Joel Barjenbruch is a financial planner who keeps things simple, honest, and grounded in genuine relationships. Since beginning his career in 2007 and launching his practice in 2010, Joel has grown JS Financial, Inc. into a well-respected firm trusted by clients nationwide for retirement and wealth planning. His philosophy is simple: the client always comes first.

With offices in both Lincoln and Omaha, Joel works with individuals, business owners, and their families, helping them create comprehensive retirement plans and manage risk following a fiduciary standard. He’s not about selling products. He takes the time to listen, understand your goals, and build a strategy that fits who you are.

From Local Roots to Valued Advisor

Joel grew up in Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He now lives in Lincoln with his wife, Stacey, and their three children: Celia, Warren, and Joy. They are active members of Southwood Lutheran Church, where Joel has served on the church council, including as president.

Being rooted means everything to Joel. He’s not just a financial planner; he’s your neighbor down the street, your kid’s YMCA coach across town, or the guy you talked to for an hour at last week’s Husker game or local wine event.

Joel remembers your name, checks in to see how you’re doing, and ensures you never feel like another client.

Always Learning, Always Teaching

One thing that truly sets Joel apart is how much he values education, his own and others. Over the years, he’s earned several of the industry’s top certifications, reflecting his commitment to expanding his financial knowledge and top-notch service:

  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP®)
  • Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®)
  • Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®)
  • Life and Annuity Certified Professional (LACP®)
  • Certified Life Underwriter (CLU®)

But the giving doesn’t stop there. Since 2016, Joel has volunteered as an adjunct instructor at multiple adult learning institutions nationwide, sharing financial wisdom with adult learners in the Midwest and beyond.

Real Planning for Real Life

At JS Financial, Joel and his team focus on the bigger picture. They help clients figure out how to retire confidently, manage their savings wisely, reduce risk, and plan their legacy. It’s not about quick wins or cookie-cutter solutions. It's about asking the right questions and building a personalized plan that works for your life.

Joel operates under a fiduciary standard, meaning he’s legally and ethically obligated to act in your best interest. But for him, that’s not just a rule—it’s the foundation of everything he does.

A Track Record Built on Trust

Joel’s dedication to his profession has earned him national recognition. He has been a Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) member for 12 years. He has achieved the Top of the Table level 10 times, an honor reserved for the highest-performing financial professionals worldwide.

JS Financial now oversees over $100 million in assets. In August 2025, the firm will mark its 15th anniversary, a milestone reflecting longevity and consistent, values-driven service. Clients stick with Joel because he knows what he's doing and treats them with respect, patience, and genuine care.

Principles That Drive the Work

At the heart of everything Joel does is a simple mission: “Put good out in the world through financial education, without expectation.” That’s not a catchphrase; it’s a daily practice.

Three core values guide him:

  1. Never Dormant, Always Moving Forward: Joel always looks for ways to improve, whether through learning something new or helping clients find better solutions.
  2. Relationships Over Revenue: For Joel, it’s always about people first. He takes the time to build meaningful connections with clients, colleagues, and his community.
  3. Just Put Good Out in the World: Whether he’s teaching a class, volunteering, or supporting a cause, Joel believes in doing the right thing even when no one’s watching.

Giving Back Without the Spotlight

Community involvement is a core part of Joel's being. In addition to his financial endeavors, he volunteers and supports organizations near and dear to him. He is a

Through volunteer coaching opportunities in various sports, he helps local youth pursue excellence in athletics.

Keeping It Real, Every Step of the Way

Clients often say Joel is the kind of advisor who listens. He doesn’t rush you and explains things clearly, without jargon or pressure. He ensures his fees are transparent and typically below the industry’s standard of honesty, which builds trust, and that trust is what his entire practice is built on.

What’s Next for Joel?

Joel isn’t slowing down anytime soon. In 2025, he was featured in the “Faces of Lincoln for wealth management and will be spotlighted again in 2026. He continues to expand his service as an educator, teaching adult learners across the Midwest. As JS Financial celebrates 15 years, Joel still does what means the most to him.

However, his most significant accomplishments are not the awards or milestones. They are the relationships and his ability to make a difference, one client at a time.
